Closed! Gus's burnt down on January 6, 2002 and at this point it has been undetermined if they will reopen.
Gus's in Mason, Tennessee was rated by People Magazine as one of the best 10 restaurants off the beaten path in the U.S. I'm not sure if it's in the best 10, but it sure is good! Your dining choices are fried chicken or grilled cheese (from the kids menu). This is the best chicken you'll ever eat. The outside is a golden brown while the inside is steaming juicy meat! This place is truly a hole-in-the-wall as our first trip there we past this extremely small building and almost didn't see the match-boxed size sign. It has about 6 tables and the kitchen is in an area about the size of a large home den. You can watch them prepare and cook the chicken only a few feet away from you. And they go through the chicken like you wouldn't believe! This is an absolutely must try! However, don't wear nice clothes and don't go back to work (if you work in an office). The smoke is so thick inside that not only will it permeate your clothes and skin, you may want to take some eye drops, regardless if you wear contacts!
